Today was absolutely gorgeous in SC. Sunny, clear skies, low humidity, a
perfect spring day.
I replaced the bypass hose on the Sprite that sprung a leak earlier this
week and went out for a dry, so far, so good.
I headed back home and did a little work to my hot rod MGA project. After
some fiddling with various bits and pieces, I jump in the car for a
shakedown cruise.
I'm off to the gas station, fill up the car and drive around a bit.
Everything is working perfectly. The Ford V6 purrs like a kitten, till
you stomp the go pedal, then WOW!!!
So, I'm about 1/2 a mile from home and press the brake pedal as I approach
a stop sign.
All of a sudden, growl, growl, metal on metal from the front breaks. Then
POP, BAM, CRACK, SCREECH
I whip of the road and look at the right front, Flat tire.
i jacked up the car and removed the tire. The inside of my nice, new 15 X
7 rim has a circumferential gouge and 3 LARGE HOLES
The bottom caliper bolt had sheared off, the caliper rotated outward and
punch through my rim. Bits of wheel tore a gash in the sidewall of the
tire
So there goes a few hundred dollars.
