Oh, yeah Dave.

Average speed out there today on Route
91 or 95 is 75 or so, most especially at
commuting time (traffic conditions permitting). Today's new cars are far
more safe at these speeds than the
older cars were at 15 mph less considering modern tires, suspensions,
brakes, etc.

I mean we have "Stop" signs and speed
bumps going up all over the place here
in suburbanland, NYC Metro area.

'Course, all this and other safety improvements will not cancel out the
effect of the loose nut behind the wheel! :)
