Several people have shared their opinions with me on the dish size of the AE
pistons from Winners Circle. I've appended Tom Speed's information because
he has proven to be pretty knowledgeable when it comes to racing Sprites.
Below that is the email I received from Federal Mogul, manufacturers of the
AE brand of piston.

My pistons are part #21253. Winners Circle says they are 6.5cc. Tom says
6.2cc. F/M tech guy says 8.09cc. I understand these are made in the UK by
blacksmiths, and a couple of cc's don't amount to much when you're forging a
plow, but only one of our contestants can be correct and take home the 2004
Panoz we have available as a prize today.

Has anyone done (or have an uninstalled piston and is willing to do) a cc
volume check with a plate and graduated burrette? Let science prevail! Am
I running 10.9:1 or not?!

John,
A/E sells two pressure cast pistons. Part# 21253 are the
replacements for the old Hepolite PowerMax pistons and have a 6.2 cc
dish. Part# 21151 are replacement pistons for the stock pistons and have
an approximately 8 cc dish. We run a 1310 cc (1275 +.040) motor in our
HP/LP race car in SCCA races. Under the LP rules we are restricted to
11.0 to 1 compression ratio. We use the 21253 pistons in our race motors
and they work well and cost a lot less ($325) than other racing pistons
($500+)

Hello John,
The dish volume on piston reference 21253 is 8.09cc.
With regret there are no published figures for piston temperatures. AE
Aftermarket pistons are standard replacement equipment, designed to operate
within OE specifications and design tolerances.
