I am piping up :)
Electronic ignitions die and leave you stranded, keep a points set in
the spares bag. Or learn how to clean and adjust points.
Total new brake system.
Total new suspension.
Good running engine, it doesn't have to be new.
And don't think about one of those cheap ass square noisy fuel pumps,
spend $50 on a Carter or generic equivlent round electric low pressure
fuel pump, it's good for 10 years at least. And quite too.
And never baby the car, all my problems are from the cars hardly driven
or driven by the females in the house. It's not their fault, it's the
fact that they don't "DRIVE" the car they way it was intended to be driven.
No use results in split fuel lines, gummed up carbs, corroded ignition
wires, and shortened hydraulic system life.
At least it sure seems that way.

Grease the car twice a year regardless of mileage. Change the oil twice
too or every 3k. Early spring, (beginning of the drive season) end of
Summer (end of the hard driving season)
Replace brake fluid, coolant, and repack the w/bearings every 2 years
regardless of miles.
Tune it up every Spring, points, plugs, cond, rotor, cap, wires every
2nd tune up.
Replace your tires every 5 years, they get old before they wear out.

Look at it this way, if you car raise a Spridget from the grave, you can
keep it running. Sure things go wrong on old cars, they did when they
were new, read the shop manual cover to cover once, re-read areas that
you are not comfortable with. You can fix most problems on the side of
the road with a screw driver, pliers, and a BF hammer ;)
