This comes from Gerard's web site under his Tech Tips and the Spridget specs.
He
responded to me when I faced the same question, and he advised me. There is a
conflict between the footbox and the starter body. Some folks talk about the
BFH
modification, but I couldn't seem to get enough leverage. I took the over
engineered
approach and cut out a section of the footbox corner (complicated by some
double wall
issues), welded up a small box that I then riveted in place with solid aircraft
rivets. Sealed the joints with silicone sealer.
I bought my starter from Advance Auto, can't remember the exact price. They
took one
of my old junk starters for the core. I tried to do this transaction at my
local NAPA
store where I have an account, but even with my discount, Advance was better.
And
NAPA could not assure me that the core would work and not get rejected, and add
to the
cost later on my account. I did better as a cash customer at Advance.
Their listing did not coincide, though, between the years listed below and the
part
number on the starter. Default to the part number. Worked for me.
