I was THAT kid back in 1972. (67 Sprite)
My wife was THAT kid back in 1975. (65 Sprite)
My Son was THAT kid back in 1996. (63 Mini)
My daughter was THAT kid back in 1999. (59 Austin A40)
I personally know 4 kids who had LBCs as first cars in very recent
years. They are all still here and 3 of them still have LBCs, not
neccessarily their first LBC but I have these kids stopping by for parts
and advice on their MGB, Spitfire, and Mini on any given Saturday.

On the other hand, friends of my kids that lost their lives in car
crashes....
Jeep vs school bus. 17 year old girl dies.
Jeep vs Explore. 19 year old boy (explorer) dies.
Mustang vs pole, 18 year old girl dies.
All these cars were new or close to it. And yes, if they were in LBCs,
they would still not be here given the nature of the wrecks.

If we don't get the kids involved with these cars, the cars will die off
with us and our kids will junk our beloved little cars.
My kids will be fighting over who gets which of my LBCs.

Kevin's nephew may get tired of his Spridget as my kids did with in a
year. Too much maintainance, quirky, small, leaky, cold, and no AC.
But I'll bet big bucks that same kid WILL find himself another LBC or
save his "first" car and restore it as soon as he settles down as we all
have.

One last thing.....Safety Fast! ;)
