Phil,

A stock engine in good condition will take 6000 rpm occasionally with 
no worries.

What's the build of the engine?  Stock?  Factory build? street preped?

Safe is whatever the engine is built for.  Chuck C's engine in his 
Bugeye will take a couple THOUSAND more revs than my 1275cc rebuild.

I safely get 6000 RPM out of my 1275 (and sometimes push it to 6500 ;)
