The bearing should be a tight fit in the hub.  If it slides in and out
easily, your hub is worn out.

Yes, that could help explain why your axles leak oil.  If you're hub is
worn, then the axle is wobbling around and it is hard to keep a good seal
on the axle flange.  Your bearings are probably spinning in the hub, too.
 There is a danger of breaking an axle, although not a very great one in
street use with street tires.
