Hi group,

Peter C., Frank & WST, I apologize for you getting this twice but I
wanted to make sure you got it.
Dan this may help you also.

After reading Horler's book VERY carefully (page 63) we have found that,
after 9Cg-DA-2140, there was a different pressure plate, a different
front cover (with needle rollers for the input shaft), and release fork
used for the 948CG. The tranny was still smooth case but was, of
course, the close ratio box that was optional on the MkI.

So what my friend Eric has is: A 9CG engine with the 9CG clutch/pressure
plate but a 9C smoothcase tranny. This won't work without some
modification. It will work, we think, if he uses a 9C clutch/pressure
plate & fork. What we need to confirm this is a measurement; /the
distance from the very bottom of the pilot bearing recess to the face of
the release plate/ (the surface the throwout bearing comes in contact
with) of a 9C engine & clutch assembly. So if someone has a 9C 948 with
the correct pressure plate/clutch assembly sitting out of a car it we
would be grateful for the above measurement. We're thinking there is
about a 5/16" difference between the a 9C and 9GC setup.

Thanks in advance!
