Don't laugh, Jay!  Just talk with your Enrolled Agent (not a CPA unless 
they specialize in tax law).  When my wife was teacher, she got four 
units of credit from UCLA legitimate tax deduction that held up to IRS 
audit.  But it takes pre-planning and knowing the appropriate sections 
of the voluminous tax code.
