Yep....there we go.

Batt. has just been hangin' around too long, unused. And of course, once 
"powered up", it's got it's own shelf
life basically unused.

It's like having new (but unwrapped) tires 
mounted on a car which is hardly used. The
compound wears out before the tread wears down, "flat-spotting" 
notwithstanding.  

You might try the slimmer (group "41"?) battery which goes into the later, more 
modern cars (Toyota, I think), John. These
fit better behind the heater, are a little lighter and yet, otherwise suitable 
for the
application.

And as you so correctly state, all else being
equal, the engine starts with the first turn of the starter with the "improved" 
electronic ignitions so a lot of "reserve" is
simply not necessary.
