My dead battery was due to a failed alternator, specifically an open
circuit in the internal regulator. It was strange to me, the ignition
lamp stayed on even with the key off! So I'm trying to decide if I want
to convert to a domestic alternator, or just buy a replacement. This may
be old news to some, but I just learned that Bosch makes a replacement
for the Lucas alternator w/ internal regulator. It looks like a good
choice at a good price except that it is the same 34 Amp capacity as the
Lucas. Don't know why Bosch would go to the trouble without upping the
capacity a bit?? Has anyone gone this route?
