I have a case of Schaeffer oil
10W-30 Synthetic Blend, that I
plan to put in the stock 1275
that is in the 68 Sprite. I
was curious if any list
members have personal
experience with this brand. I
believe I asked this question
a while back, but don't recall
anyone with personal stories.
The reason I finally broke
down and bought it, is because
we use the brand at work. We
have a hot oil laminator, that
we use to apply colored
patterned paper, to 4 x 8
sheets of plywood. We bought
it at an auction, not working,
and had to fix it. Upon
examination, it appears the
heating element had gone out,
and had crystallized the oil
around it, into something
resembling a rock. It took
about a day to air hammer out
the baked oil and the element
pieces.
A new element was purchased,
installed, and the
manufacturer's recommended oil
put in. A few years later the
element fails, and the same
result, crystallized into the
element tube. Another day of
work, and the new element is
installed.
This time, we are talked into
using the Schaeffer heat
transfer oil, rather than the
recommended oil. Fast forward
a few more years, and the
element goes out again, 4
weeks ago, in fact. New
element arrives, and we
prepare for a day of air
hammering. They unbolt the
element from the tube, and get
ready to pull out whatever
parts will pull loose. The
entire element comes out
intact. It is covered in
sludge, mind you, this machine
runs at 425* F, but it ISN'T
crystallized.
After that, I decided to give
this auto oil a chance.
So, any stories from anyone
else?
