You know, Frank, they do make box wrenches with slots in them already!
Probably stronger than a cheap tool that you cut the strength out of
too. ;)

Liquid wrench, heat but not too much, heat the nut not the tube. 
Cut a slot in a 5/8" box wrench (a cheap one) the slot must fit over the
cap tube. Use the box end. 
If that doesn't work, learn some new curse words and scream them at the 
nut, scare it loose ;)
