Sorry to wade in late on this David, but NO, you should not have to  
disassemble and reassemble.  The poor paint job caused the problem, not  
anything you 
did, and the painters "making it right"  should include  covering your labor.  
If necessary, get an attorney involved.  You are  probably talking $25,000 
plus if you have to pay someone to do the R&R  too.  Besides, the body shop can 
do it faster and easier than you and a  buddy doing it part time.
