My local hardware store is "different".  They actually have grades 2, 5, and 
8.   But they only stock the grade 8 stuff in coarse thread.  Am I going to 
worry about it and run out to the garage, take the engine off the stand and 
replace the coffee can bolts?  Um, ahh..........nah!    lol    They've been 
working fine for years with no bending, cracking, or any other sign of 
imminent failure.

A 5/16ths bolt is a fairly substantial chunk of iron.  And there are 4 of 
them holding up that little Spridget engine.  I would hazard a guess that 
I'm well within the load bearing limits of those bolts.

To muddy the waters even further - how many bolts, exhaust manifold studs, 
or whatever do you guys use when you remove and replace your 
engine/transmission assembly?  Are they grade 8?  :-)
