Ditto on the Japanese alternator....mine is a Hitachi one-wire unit
often found on Toyota, Nissan, Datsun pickups of the early 80s vintage.
It's been flawless, looks like it is supposed to be there, and it's good
for about 60 amps or so.

Only problem with the GM is it is 1/2 the size of the engine!
It just looks wrong (IMHO)
I have successfully installed a couple dozen Jap alternators, the Subaru
and/or Ford Festiva alts are very small and look like the belong on the
Spridget.
Simple 1 wire hook up.
