wrong oil pump?

Where am I going wrong on my oil pump? I have a new
slotted cam, and a new oil pump- the pump has a single
"tab" shaped shaft about 1/2" wide, 3/16" thick,
sticks out from pump about 3/4". The slot in the cam
is about 1" wide. There is a shoulder protruding from
the pump about 3/8" that prohibits a flush fit of the
pump against the block. Did I buy the wrong pump?
