Hi list,

For a while now I've had a cast bellhousing for the Ford type 9 gearbox to
A-series engine in my garage. The car has one of the very early fabricated
bellhousings with my car being the first Sprite and second Spridget ever
converted
with this kit.

During the change from a fabrication to a casting there were a number of
design changes one of which was to increase the total height of the casting
(10mm
became 20mm solid aluminium. Because my car works fine with the original
total height I needed to find a machine shop to mill the casting down by 19.5mm
(I'm allowing half a mm for safety) (the casting is not ideal to have turned
down in a lathe.

As you can imagine it's not easy finding anyone to deal with a one-off but I
found a local place (walking distance) that can do the job for me and tomorrow
I'll find out if they did a good job. All the machines (lathes and mills)
were non-CNC and there was a lot of interesting stuff including some racing Jag
flywheels. I got talking to the owner and it turns out he makes the dif
casing for Spridget LSDs starting with the first prototype - does a lot of
other
LSD work as well though I didn't ask if this was for the same company.
