Per Pa Asgeirsson....keep the stat for better
flow and cooling. The stat forms a planned for and required "restriction" to
provide for the aforementioned. Without the stat, cooling is compromised to the
extent local "hot spots" occur....not a good thing.
I currently run a 160 stat in the summer, a 180 in the winter, along with a
80/20 anti-freeze/distilled water mix in the summer,
and 50/50 mix of the aforementioned in the
winter.
If you don't wanna use a stat in the summer, use a "blanking sleeve" to provide
needed restriction for proper coolant flow
rate.
