Kirk - If you are talking about the check valve assembly that sits in the
spring at the OPPOSITE end from the piston, it is ONLY used in the brake
bore.  It prevents the pressure of the shoe return springs from forcing
too much fluid back into the master cylinder.  If you are looking at the
"spring retainer" that fits inside the rubber primary cup, there should
be one in each spring.
