So can one of you more experienced owners advise of the best points to jack, 
and place jack stands under, a Midget?

In the front:

Under the frame rails that protrude but best under the cross member. 

In the rear:

Under the axle, or depending on what you're doing, the springboxes. 

If the rocker panels are still solid, you can put a piece of wood between the 
bottom seam and your jack. I use a 2' section of 2 X 4 to spread the load when 
I jack there.

Before you buy a new floor jack check to see if it will fit if you take the 
seat fixture off of it. Mine has a cast "cup" that comes out. Also, you can 
have someone shove the jack under while you lift the car by hand a little.
