IMHO, Swap in the centersection as well as the half-shafts(!), replace the 
outer bearings while you are at it and you should be able to install the 
1974 brakes from the backing plate out. Since you were already going to go 
to either Frank or Gerard for a proper 1967 (I think) single circuit, disk 
brake ready master cylinder, you will be fine.
