Your custom turbo manifold probably isn't the same cheap, thin, mild steel
that most headers are made from.  Turbos get red hot during operation.  I
don't even think ceramic will hold up on hot turbos.  Racers use header
wraps because they work but they also don't put the wraps on and drive up
and down the roads for months at a time.  Now that ceramic coating is
economical, I think it is probably the best way to go.  You get performance
benefits as well as enhanced longevity.  Good bang for the buck as far as
I'm concerned.
Got a turbo?  Just use cast iron manifolds or thick steel and hope for the
best.  Turbos get hotter than hot.
