Grounds are the first thing we checked. Cleaned and used silicon grease on
them plus ran a new ground wire to the tach. The tach does not go through the
voltage stabilizer at least on the 72 MGB GT.

We must have missed a ground someplace. Will keep looking.

  What he said.  Plus, most any problem of that sort usually ends up with a
bad ground or bad voltage stabiliser.  LBC electrical problem?  Think ground,
bullet connector.
