I have underestimated the force of hydraulics.  I didn't feel good about
forcing it earlier.

Force helps.  Clutch is doing its thing with a few extra feet of leverage.

Chris, it takes A LOT OF FORCE to disengage the clutch. Without 
hydraulics, you'll need a long pipe to lever the lever, or a lever.
