What's worse is having to deal with DCO (Dumb Current owner)issues later
down the road and spend a few hours cussing yourself for something stupid
you did because you were in a hurry.

I don't want to discuss how I've come to know this.

Yes, but that would make you a card carrying member of
the DPO club when the next guy has to take it apart
and spends a half hour making a mess of cleaning it
off (thank you, W!ll P&rry). At worst, the gasket is
part of a cheap set that will leave you with spares.
At best, it's a buck or two if someone has an open
set.
