Did a similar stunt when I was a kid with a clapped out MGB. Fuses? We

Car caught fire on I-95 just outside Norwalk, CT one night. Had a bunch
of contraband in the car which I jettisoned just before the trooper with
the fire bottle showed up. Foul smelling insulation, what?

Wire it braided wire to negative (hot on your car)
Other wire to Positive. (grd on your car) But insulate the pump so it
does not ground out.
I had my 8 track player floating around in the glove box of my first
Sprite hooked up this way. Worked fine til it grounded out and let out
all the smoke.
