Hey Frank, As much as you might hate to do it, this is one where I'd hire out. 
Had a friend who tried to replace a broken spring and it let go and smacked him 
in the side of head. Lucky he wasn't killed and his vision still isn't right 5 
+ years later. After watching a couple of idiots replace a spring on my door 
that broke and watching that wound up torsion spring let loose with their 
special tool, a BF Screwdriver used to wind the spring, go flying across the 
garage, and fortunately not hitting anything other than denting some drywall,  
I'll leave this job to the professionals. I have the local garage door and 
table saw mechanic Les Digits on my Speed Dial List. Statistics say that the 
garage door spring is absolutely the most hazardous thing ypou can mess with in 
your house or garage. Tops by far of anything else on the dangerous things for 
homeowners list.
