Much of the advice received is good, as this is a complicated subject.
In a normal installation the springs are tightly wound when the door is
closed and as the door opens the springs unwind losing power. This is OK
because as the door goes horizontal you don't want it to keep flying up. It
stops gently as the spring unwinds.
What you are attempting is something altogether different. It may be
possible, but some major changes will be required. Good luck with the
project.
