NONONONO. Not an olive. The gasket is a copper gasket or crush
washer that seals between the surfaces of the slave cylinder and the
flexible hose. remember, the flex hose, only on the 1" bore 1275
slave, does not use any form of compression fitting. The hole that
the male 1/16-20 hose end goes into is a straight, bottomless hole.
No taper, no seat at the bottom. The seal is accomplished by the
copper gasket, similar to an oil drain plug gasket, or crush washer.

No, you can't, and don't bother or worry about it. Here are some
questions and answers:
1. is there now a rubber hose into the slave?
if yes, then you have a 1275 slave.
You "should" have a 1/4" pipe running from the slave
hose back toward the master cylinder. ALL of the masters have a
3/8-24 single flare hole for the pipe. The 1275 single, independent,
master has an adapter to go from 3/8-24 to accept the 1/4" line with
its 7/16 male single flare fitting. But honestly, many cars have an
adapter at the hose end of the 3/16 pipe. Not overly significant. On
the 67 and newer cars, that hard line goes along in front of the
heater tray above the transmission.

if no, then you have a 1098/948 slave.
You should have a hard steel line. 3/16". It would
have a 3/8-24 single flare male end into the slave, 2 or 3 coils
about 2" in diameter about a foot away and vertically above the
starter, then the line traverses across the firewall above the
battery and ends with the same 3/8-24 single flare into the master.

If I can back up to your original. A 1965 should have a 1098 CD
engine with a ribcage transmission. You have that. It should have the
tandem master cylinder. You have that. It should have the steel line
from master to slave. I'm not sure you have that.

If you were to put in a 1275 engine and transmission, you could do
one of two things regarding the slave.
         1. use the 1098 slave, and the car's original plumbing.
You'll have to fiddle with the slave pushrod length
         2. use the 1275 slave, and re-plumb the lines so that it
terminates into the rubber flex line that fits the 1275 slave. If you
choose this, you need a way to support the line near where it
connects to the rubber hose.

I hope that helps.
