Carefully check both the electrical and mechanical portions of the 
ignition switch.

I've had similar issues with high mileage Volvos. They get quite a 
workout in 250k, especially if one of the drivers has a large, heavy key 
ring.

Don't throw parts at it unless you're sure that is the culprit.
