Six years ago I had about $6K worth of tools stolen from my garage. A lot of
them special tools for antique BMW motorcycles and completely irreplaceable.
The police were most helpful. Their shrugs of indifference and $1.25 got me
a hot cup of coffee. The police are useless in a theft case. Unless its a
car theft or a bank robbery they won't even take fingerprints or send a
detective by. In most cases they don't even file a crime report - only a
blotter report which is gone in a matter of days. If you want to feel
totally F*d, call the police.
