I read an interesting article a year or so ago about a CEO of a Chinese
appliance manufacturing company who went to Germany to look at machines. He
was embarrassed by what he found because he simply did not know that anyone
made appliances of that quality. He knew that his plant and people were
capable of the same, and set out to change the operations to produce to
produce them. There may be a lot of that in a country where people have so
little exposure to the rest of the world. They simply may not know, or may
be constrained by the government to do things as they always have.
