There are currently at least 2 intake manifolds for sale on eBay
(items 310114374470 and 280300719227, hereafter referred to as #1 and
#2). #1 is listed as part # 12G1450 while #2 is listed as 12G583. #2
is for an early Spridget and #1 is for a later Spridget.

If you look at the pic of #2 you can clearly see that the intake
runner on the bakelite block side is "radiused" or chamfered from
1.25" out to probably 1.5". #1 has it too, but the pic isn't as good.
Why is that chamfer there? The bakelite blocks I have seen are a
constant 1.25" in diameter. It seems to me that when assembled, there
is a discontinuity at the point the bakelite meets the manifold - two
different diameters.

I have a 12G1451 with the same chamfer. A PO took a rat tail file to
the bakelite spacers to try and "port match" the diameters. This
makes no sense since that just puts a wide spot between the bakelite
and the intake manifold.

Please explain why the chamfer is on these manifolds. My 1098
manifold has no chamfer.
