the REAL reason (billing issues aside) is that TESLA never
believed the MichelsonMorley experiment to be accurate and never
accepted Einstien's theories. He was planning on "beaming"
electricity through the "aether" which does not exist. Until the
time he died, he still believed in aether. I did read an article
however on the Tesla pump receiving renewed interest in the '90s
as material science is now making it perhaps feasible.
