Morning all, this may be for Newbies only..

So my Aamco top is very old, it has marks on the clear (Now there's a
joke!) vinyl window that correspond to the tread of the tire it was
lying on, it has red paint in places and overspray in others. I
figured I had nothing to loose...

I tried three ways of "restoring" the clear vinyl with the results
shown below.

Diamondite Clear vinyl clear vinyl kit, contains three chemicals and
applicators:

Chemical one to remove yellow from the vinyl actually worked but mine
was too far gone, it removed some of the yellow but did nothing for
the tire tread marks. Chemical two and three are a polishing compound
and a finish wax (I think) , Either way they didn't really help.

Plexus cleaner and polish is a spray on wax type stuff. Worked a
treat BUT didn't clear up the vinyl, just made is smooth looking. I
tried this on one of the corner windows without any other treatment
and it looked like new vinyl only yellow with paint on it..

Bon Ami is a fine scouring powder, it's been used for years to make
windshields look better so why not. I used this on the other corner
window. It removed the bulk of the paint, overspray and crud and
left a matte finish. Not too bad really but not like new vinyl
either. After a spray with the Plexus it helped a bit but not
perfect. If I had a top that didn't have tire tread marks as part of
it's make up and I was only going to use it on RARE occasion I would
go this way. You can see out of it better than with overspray.

Of course after talking with the fine folks at convertible top guys
and went ahead and ordered one fro them. It's not here yet but I'll
tell ya when it gets here.

Lester
