In stock form....

most torquey = more luggabiltiy but, loading the motor in this respect reduces
bearing service life.

The 948 is least torquey, followed by the (longer stroke 1098) which is almost
as
torquey (in the lower range) as the 1275, there being a few ft lbs difference
between
the later two motors in this respect.

Keep them at or above 2500rpm except for light pedal cruse at 2k, use nothing
below (especially for the less torquey 948) and all should go well in terms of
service life, all other factors being equal.

Hello Spridgets,

At what rpm to downshift? That is, what is the lowest cruising RPM
that people are using with which engine?

will 948s cruise/lug at a lower or higher rpm than 1275s?

will the torque of 1098s let them go lower yet?

I'm more interested in actual practice than theory.

  ??????????????? ????????????? ??????????????
