You are correct that a number of cars had or you could install seat  
belts.  My comment was that they were not an option on the Sprite's an  
should have said a factory option.  There were a number of dealers  
that would put in third party belts an I saw some pretty scary  
installations where they just put a bolt through the floor sheet metal  
with a nut on the other side.

Like a lot of folks I was installing belts, from Pep Boys etc, since  
the mid 1950's.
