I shipped a rear bumper from an 80's Cadillac (including the big tall
taillamps) from Tennessee to a friend in England a few years ago. Crated it up
myself and sent it via surface carrier using the shipping department of the
company I worked for at the time. It was very inexpensive - maybe $125 for a
box that was at least 75 (probably closer to 100) pounds. I don't know the
carrier used, but the crate eventually found its way into a container of stuff
all going to the same port. It was not speedy, but my friend was thrilled.
The bumpers he found in junkyards over there were close to $1,000. He ended
up with a shipping and part costs combined of around $250-$300.

Maybe you can do a search on freight or international freight. The only way
it's going to be affordable to ship something big is via the ocean and it is
going to take a while to get there. You may also then have to deal with
getting it from the port if your friend in Australia does not live near enough
to the ocean to pick it up himself.

Good luck & let us know how it turns out.
