A little out of focus, but you can still see the wear on the bearing. The
other is smooth inside. I think there is some slop when the axle in inserted.
Not sure how much slop is allowed

You can see the wear right where the twisting starts. Is this the passenger
side, driver side, or the wrong half-shaft?

Driver side looks fine.....

I pulled the diff tonite. It had plenty of gear oil in it. The pinon
seal still leaks, but it was not enough to do any damage. The backlash
is really not bad (but then, I'm no expert). My wheel bearing seem to be fine.
 No other fluid
leaks. One thing I did notice on the half shafts is that one of them
(from the passenger side) has splines that twist and it shows a little
fresh wear right where they start twisting. I checked the manuals and
none of them show this. The driver's side has straight splines. On
the passenger side bearing in the diff, it shows signs of
damage to the inside. This might be where the problem is. All the bearings
turn smoothly. I will post pics as soon
as I can. Any thoughts on this? To
change that bearing out looks like a pretty difficult task with tools
and skills that I lack.

looking for a good differential if anyone has one....mine has developed so much
backlash that it whines pretty loud at high speeds. The seal went on it
recently (don't know when) and after our outstanding backroads drive yesterday,
it was all it could take.
