I have always found it easiest to undo the two nuts above the rubber mount
closest to the steering column and undo the three bolts from the metal mount
to the frame on the other side, then it comes right out.
The starter can be removed without disconnecting anything else at any point.
the above is for an "A" block engine I know nothing about the 1500.
