I was in my dad's basement workshop last night and looked up for some reason
... and I saw what looked like a tonneau rail bag tucked up against the
ceiling. So, I hauled it down. Sure enough, there was a 2 piece tonneau rail
there. My assumption is that 'way back when', I didn't have a clue what it
was or had no intention of using it and stuffed it there, ... for 32 years. I
have no recollection of using it and had to search the internet to see if
there was such an item used on '76 'B's.
I remember driving my car to my parents' after buying it and we raised the
hood ( it was a hood to me then ) and my dad asked "Where's the battery? Did
it fall out along the road?". Which got me to looking. Then I turned the
ignition, and it started, so I assumed it was there 'somewhere'. I had to
pull out the owner's manual to figure that one out. :)
