Initially I would have done the same thing you did, and if they didn't fit well
I would solder the plugs to the fulcrum bushing. I use a low melting point
solder to solder carb butterflies to the throttle shaft only using a propane
torch. You used to be able to buy it in a kit with a coil of wire and a small
bottle of flux. Inquire at a good local welding supply.
