When the problem happens does your tach drop to zero or stay at the correct 
rpm? If it drops I would look for an electric problem first.

Did you get it working with the second distributor?

There is no uniformity at all.  THe only thing that seems to be common is that
it always happens when trying to accelerate.  When at a constant speed it is
not to bad but the minute the gas pedal is even barely touched it starts the
"bucking"
