David, there is a fix for the arcing in the rain. First make sure there is
no tracking on the distributor. Then carefully clean the outside with brake
cleaner or lacquer thinner. You need to make sure there is no contamination
that support arcing. When it is completely clean and dry, install a boot
over the distributor and wires. The waterproof covers for the distributor
and coil are available from Vickie B. I never had a Sprite miss that had
been treated this way. - Jim

Glad I did have my Bimini top with me. As soon as I left Linda's
house, the drips started getting bigger, so I stopped and put it on
before I hit the Parkway. Kept me as dry as I expect to be when
driving a Bugeye in the rain.

Distributor cap started arcing from #3 to the clip and I couldn't
convince it of the error of its ways, so I pulled over at a Shell
station and swapped in the 123/Mini dissy from my Midget; glad I
grabbed it.

Made it as far as Bloomsburg, PA, then the rain got really bad, so I
am now ensconced in the Hampton Inn, while the gracious staff let me
leave the car under the entrance for the night. Yeah, the tonneau is
on as well. Another eleven hours or so tomorrow and I should be home.
