Rick,
Even tho he sounded like an A** Hole, he is saying lets talk. I think be
fair, get three of the highest estimates you can and present him with the
highest one and have it fixed right. You should not try and make money on
the deal, as well as you should not get screwed. I can understand him not
wanting to put it on his record etc. It is always better between neighbors
and friends to be informal and still get it done right.
It is not in your best interests to screw him as it is smart for him not to
try and screw you.
Don't just take a check, get a good estimate from a good , high end shop and
go with that.
