Hello,

      More progress...

Well, I drained the tank through that screw hole then thought,

Why didn't I just unscrew the drain plug? It would have gone a
      lot quicker.

I didn't find Permatex 12020 which is designed to seal even
against gasoline wet surfaces, so I used Permatex gasoline and
radiator repair stuff. It took more surface prep, but it seems
to be nice and hard. It says two hours cure time, but I'll wait
until tomorrow morning to add back some fuel.

I'm nervous (those who know me know I'm not that much of a
mechanic unless I've SEEN something done once or twice) about
dropping the tank even though it looks simple enough. The fuel
line seems to have some kind of threaded nut thing that goes
into the tank? but then the line is hard. does that just bend
out of the way after loosening the "nut thingy?" ..

and the wires to the sending unit, is there some sort of spade
      lug?
