The adjustable relief valve mechanism that I got from APT uses a spring about
the same length as the normal relief valve spring.  Also as with the normal
relief valve it uses a cup to seal the seat.  No ball bearing.  All that is
being done is to vary the pressure of the cup on the seat.

Michael,
It is my understanding that the adjustable oil pressure relief valve moves the
outer end of the spring in, thereby necessitating shortening of the spring to
keep the o.p at a normal level.  Also, if you have replaced the relief
"piston" with a steel ball it is effectively longer than the piston
compounding the problem.  I believe that Vizard mentions this.

If it is a calibrated test gauge and the calibration is within certification

dates then surely the figures should be accepted as being about right?
