Kirk,
I have rebuilt both smooth case and rib case trannys. They are basically
the same thing. The rib case is just a little beefier.
instructions in the Sprite Midget Workshop manual will get it done as well
as the Haynes Manual for Midget/Sprites. Not too difficult if you follow the
steps in the manual and watch for the detent balls and plungers and springs.

For parts, Gerard can probably tell you more there.

Where are you located?

Jeff

Subject: [Spridgets] Rib Case - Rebuild Question/s

I need a new gear box for my 59. I nearly snagged a 1972 midget rib case
via eBay but missed it by a couple of dollars which might have not been a
bad thing. . . unknown condition although stated to have come off a car
with 38k on the odometer with seller admitting that this may not actually be
the case. . and moved well through all gears. . but no tolerances checked
by the seller.

What is involved in rebuilding a rib case? If I had the money at this point
I would go to a Datsun set up. . but instead I need a decent rib case. (My
rib case grinds in first to second and second to third). Assuming it is the
balk rings, what do I know at this point?

I am mechanically confident enough to know that I can screw up a gear box
rebuild. . . ahh, think I can pull it off if I have the correct
instructions.

Anyhow. . can someone tell me about how much are the parts to do a rebuild
on a rib case and where are they sourced? And or who on the list does
rebuilds like this and of course I need to get an idea of the cost?

Any help is always most appreciated. .

Thanks,

Kirk
